James H. Manuel, 90, of Freetown, passed away Sunday, April 6, 2014, at Covered Bridge Health Campus in Seymour.

James attended Freetown United Methodist Church. He had worked as a mechanic most of his life and was a World War II Navy veteran. He was a member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows, a lifetime member of the American Legion, and he enjoyed hunting and fishing.

Born Dec. 15, 1923, in Greene County, he was a son of James and Edith (Stogdill) Manuel. On April 4, 1947, he married Rosalie, and she preceded hm in death on Nov. 10, 2008.

Survivors include two children, Amanda (Robert) Ottolino and Jim Manuel; one sister, Anna Mae Forgey; and four grandchildren, Alexa Manuel, Jimmy Manuel, Nick Ottolino and Alice Ottolino.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; one brother, Robert “Bob” Manuel; and a half brother, Paul Manuel.

A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday at Freetown United Methodist Church with David Ison, Larry Tedrow and Bobby Manuel officiating. Burial will take place at Freetown Cemetery with military rites.

Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Winklepleck-Weesner Funeral Home in Brownstown and 10 a.m. until time of service Thursday at the church.
