John C. Hagedorn, 69, of Ferdinand, passed away Sunday, Nov. 30, 2014, at his home.

Born July 22, 1945, in Perry County, he was the son of Clarence A. and Olivia A. (Naviaux) Hagedorn. On Aug. 16, 1969, he married Marilyn Knies in St. Celestine Catholic Church, Celestine.

John was the owner and operator of Hagedorns’ Service Center in Ferdinand. He opened on Main Street in Ferdinand in March of 1964 when he was 18 years, and operated the business for 50 years. John enjoyed helping people and taking care of his customers and people traveling in need of help. He enjoyed antique cars, especially International Scouts. He enjoyed the outdoors, gardening, cutting firewood and planting trees. He enjoyed art, especially painting, and music.

John was a member of Saint Ferdinand parish and was a member and past president of its St. Joseph’s Sodality. He served in the Indiana National Guard and in the Cyclone Division of the 38th infantry.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Olivia (Naviaux) Hagedorn.

Survivors include his wife, Marilyn Hagedorn; two sons, Andy (Amy) Hagedorn of Ferdinand, and Alex (Ilona) Hagedorn of Louisville, Kentucky; a daughter, Amy (Mike) Wonder of Bloomington; seven grandchildren; three brothers, Michael (Karen) Hagedorn of Bristow, Bernard (Deborah) Hagedorn of Vincennes, and Fred (Belle Ann) Hagedorn of Ferdinand; and four sisters, LaVerne (Robert) Grundhoefer of Santa Claus, Mary Ann (Bill) Hoge of Zionsville, Rosalie (John) Denu of Jasper, and Clara (Michael) Pfister, of Evansville.

A funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Saint Ferdinand Catholic Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and 7 to 9:30 a.m. Thursday at Becher Funeral Home, Ferdinand.

Memorial contributions may be made to Lange-Fuhs Cancer Center, GENTIVA Hospice or a favorite charity.
