In his 16 years of coaching boys basketball at

Brownstown Central,

Dave Benter has a record of 7-9 against Seymour. However, the Braves have won six-straight matchups against the Owls.

On Friday, Benter will look to make it seven-straight as they host the Owls at 7:30 p.m.

Coaching-wise, it’s old school versus new school.

The Braves’ likely hall-

of-fame coach will be facing Owls second-year coach Kyle Clough in the matchup.

In Clough’s first season, Seymour fell to Brownstown Central 42-68.

There is much to be seen from both of these teams with it only being the second game of the season.

In their season-opener at Martinsville, the Owls fell 60-31.

The Owls showed spurts of solid basketball but allowed two runs in the second and third quarter when falling to the Artesians.

Seymour freshman Alan Perry could provide some notable moments during Friday’s game.

In his varsity debut, Perry totaled 11 points on 5-6 shooting from the free throw line. The freshmen also notched two three-point field goals in the opening quarter of play.

Big-men Isaiah Thomas and Tiller Cummings have a chance to prove crucial to the Owls’ success on the boards. Both young men totaled five rebounds against the Artesians.

In the first quarter against Martinsville, Seymour allowed only 12 points. However, the Owls followed up by giving up 25 points in the second quarter and 18 in the third quarter before only allowing five points in the last eight minutes of play.

On Tuesday, the Braves overcame a slow start to down Salem 61-47.

Brownstown’s Zach McCory anchored the offensive unit with 24 points, including three 3-point field goals, in the victory.

The Braves also have seen a solid start from sophomore Cody Waskom. Waskom opened his season with 15 points (two 3-pointers) against the Lions.

Benter’s Braves are known for being a solid defensive team.

Against Salem, Brownstown limited its turnovers to 12 while only committing 13 total fouls.

Perhaps the biggest statistic that sticks out from that game, however, is the rebounding margin. The Braves out-rebounded the Lions 39 to 26 on Tuesday. Shade led the battle for the boards with eight rebounds.
