Columbus City Band plans to perform Christmas concert at Seymour church

Columbus City Band will perform a free Christmas Concert featuring a variety of Christmas and Advent music at 6:30 p.m. Sunday at Central Christian Church.

The band plans to play “Sleigh Ride,” by Leroy Anderson; “Sleepers Wake,” a choral from Bach’s Cantata No. 140; “Christmas Bells are Ringing,” from “A Vaughan Williams Christmas;” “Schneewalzer” (Snow Waltz), a traditional German folk tune; “The Miniature Overture” from “The Nutcracker,” Irving Berlin’s “White Christmas;” “In the Bleak Midwinter, a most Wonderful Christmas,” an arrangement of secular Christmas songs; and “We Wish You A Merry Christmas.”

The concert, the second by the band at Central Christian Church in two years, is open to all who wish to attend.

Jackson County residents, Lois Bryden, Ellen Mirer, Jo McGrew, Bob Strothmann, Nikolai Haak, Jennifer Richard, Ed Kern, Richard Branaman, Jacob Gambrel, Ron Duncan, Doug Pogue and Molly Crenshaw, are members of the band.

The band will be performing the same concert again 2 p.m. Dec. 14 at the Columbus Common.

The band, organized in 1842, and typically plays 10 to 15 concerts a year.
