Jack M. Baxley, 84, of Seymour, passed away Monday, Dec. 8, 2014, at St. Catherine Regional Hospital in Charlestown.

Born Sept. 13, 1930, in Bellefontaine, Ohio, he was the son of Marion and Levina Baxley. Jack graduated from Bellefontaine High School in 1950 and married Nancy Ann Messner on June 15, 1952, in Bellefontaine.

He worked as a machinist, electrician and millwright for the New York Central Railroad for 10 years and in 1989 retired from American Can Co. as superintendent of engineering after 30 years of service. He was an avid golfer, winning many awards. He enjoyed fishing, genealogy, motorcycling and flying radio control airplanes. He earned his private pilot’s license in 1974 and flew several times to Maryland and Ohio. He was an accomplished and gifted artist and woodcarver, earning several accolades from many people and organizations.

He was a charter member of Westview Christian Church in Indianapolis, where he held various offices, and was a current member and elder of Central Christian Church, Seymour. Jack was a member of Seymour Elks Club, Sons of the American Legion Post 89 and Southern IN Flying Eagles Remote Control Airplane Club.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Nancy; daughters, Jacquie (John) Sutphin of Seymour and Jody (Doug) Heiman of Evansville; grandchildren, Ryan (Caitlin) Sutphin, Alicia (Ryan) Reedy, Ethan Heiman and Caleb Heiman; and great-grandchildren, Caden Sutphin and Alivia and Adelyn Reedy.

His parents, brother, sister and son, Mark Baxley, preceded him in death.

The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Burkholder Funeral Chapel, with the Rev. Doug Heiman and the Rev. Lewis Wright officiating. Burial will take place at Riverview Cemetery, following the funeral service.

Friend may call from 3 to 7 p.m. Wednesday and from 10 a.m. until time of service Thursday at the funeral home.
