INDOT planning winter project in North Vernon

The Indiana Department of Transportation plans to maintain two 11-foot lanes along State Road 3/South State Street in North Vernon for wintertime traffic.

Crews will place temporary pavement markings today, weather permitting.

The two lanes are centered in the State Road 3 roadway with barrels corridoring off 5-foot sections on each side to protect ongoing curb and gutter work from traffic and snow removal operations.

Dave O’Mara is the state’s contractor for the mile-long INDOT Seymour District State Road 3 project that extends from Smith Street to U.S. 50. The work includes reconstruction of the highway with installation of sanitary and storm sewer lines.

INDOT officials said construction of curbs, sidewalks, ADA ramps and driveway approaches will continue as long as weather allows. Placing the surface lift of asphalt and opening a center turn lane will take place next spring.

A revised completion date for this $3 million auxiliary lane project is May 15.
