Basket Fund aids 300 local families

The 2014 Christmas Basket Fund raised enough money to provide 300 gift cards to needy people in the county.

The final total of donations to the 69th annual fund, established by veterans returning home to Seymour and Jackson County from World War II, was $11,345.

Donations were down this year, said Jack Schrader, commander of American Legion Post 89. The post, JCB, Jay C Foods and The Tribune sponsor the fund each year. A year ago, the fund received $12,809 in donations and distributed 285 cards.

Schrader said people can donate to the fund throughout the year. Donations can be sent to American Legion Post 89, P.O. Box 907, Seymour, IN 47274.
