Community theater sets ‘Deathtrap’ auditions

Jackson County Community Theatre will conduct auditions for the production of “Deathtrap” by Ira Levin at 7 p.m. Sunday and Monday at Royal Off-the-Square Theatre in Brownstown.

Parts are available for three men and two women.

The plot involves Sidney Bruhl, a successful writer of Broadway thrillers, struggling to overcome a “dry” spell that has resulted in a string of failures and a shortage of funds. A possible break in his fortunes occurs when he receives a script from a student in the seminar he has been conducting at a nearby college — a thriller that Sidney recognizes immediately as a potential hit.

Sidney’s plan, which he devises with his wife’s help, is to offer collaboration to the student, an idea which the younger man quickly accepts. Thereafter suspense mounts steadily as the plot begins to twist and turn.

Roles available are Sidney Bruhl, ages 40 to 60; Myra Bruhl, ages 30 to 60; Clifford Anderson, ages 25 to 35; Helga ten Dorp, ages 25 to 60; and Porter Milgrim, ages 30 to 70.

Show dates are April 24 and 25 and May 1 and 2. Veteran actor John Hiester will direct the production.
