Donald “Don” Edward Basil, 65, of rural Crothersville, passed away Thursday evening, Jan. 1, 2015, at his home.

Don was born Jan. 10, 1949, in Martinsville, and was the son of Ralph Mitchell Basil and Alma Louise Wheeler Wilson. His parents preceded him in death.

On Aug. 15, 1997, in Seymour, he married Susan Jane Jones Basil, who survives in Crothersville.

Donald attended Full Gospel Apostolic Church in Brownstown. He loved to babysit his grandchildren, go fishing with his brother and play basketball with his twin girls.

Survivors include a son, Donald Edward Basil II of Edmonton, Kentucky; stepson, Michael Allen (Bethany) Smith of Dupont; daughter, Donna Elaine (Bobby Vibbert) Basil of Edmonton, Kentucky; stepdaughter, Amber Michelle Smith of Seymour; and daughters, Savannah Kaye Basil and Alisha Nichole Basil, both of Crothersville; eight grandchildren, Christian June Acree, Holly Nicole Acree, Christopher Neal Basil, John Sherman Acree II, Owen Davis, Lukas Allen Smith, Delaney Smith and Markus Alexander Smith; two great-grandchildren, Liam Daniel Wayne Holbert and Rosalie Fleur Holbert; a brother, Herbert Lewis (Colette) Taylor of Crothersville; and a sister, Carolyn Louise (Edward) Fields of Horse Cave, Kentucky.

The funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Adams Funeral Homes & Crematory. Cremation is being entrusted to the funeral home and crematory.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
