Saddle club planning pitch-in meal Saturday

Twenty-five members of the Jackson County Saddle Club gathered for Christmas dinner and meeting at the home of John and Maxine Spurgeon.

After the meal, president John Terrell opened the meeting. Kim Underwood read the minutes, and Janice Goss gave the treasurer’s report. Both were approved. A 2014 financial statement was distributed.

The club sells Rada cutlery during the year for a fundraiser. Some of the money from these and other fundraisers is used to help others. This year, the club bought food, clothing and toys for a couple of young boys who otherwise might not have received anything for Christmas.

The club also purchased and donated mittens for the mitten tree at Hoosier Christian Village. A donation was made to Brownstown Christmas Cheer project, and several members were planning to help to deliver cheer baskets.

Over the past year the club has supported the Jackson County 4-H program, the Jackson County Fair and other community events and organizations.

A Valentine dance is being planned for Feb. 14 at the Carr Township Conservation Club. Plan now on attending this annual event.

In April or May, club members plan to have a horse-drawn wagon ride; and in May or June, a trail ride and camping trip to Land Between The Lakes and/or Mammoth Cave Horse Camp in Kentucky is being planned.

The club also is planning to help the 4-H Horse and Pony Club with a tack auction March 8 at Vallonia Gym.

Officers were elected for the new year, and the next meeting will be at the home of Brad and Missy Wessel at 6 p.m. Saturday with a pitch-in soup and sandwich supper. Potential members are always welcome.
