Virgil Roy Woodson, 73 years and 10 months, of North Vernon, passed away at 6:10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 10, 2015, at his home.

Born March 19, 1941, in Bartholomew County, he was the son of Tevis Roy Woodson and Mary Coffman Woodson, both of whom preceded him in death. On Nov. 10, 1962, by the Rev. Robert Burkman at the Christian church in North Vernon, he married Sharan Little Woodson. She survives.

He retired in 1976 from Reliance Electric, where he spent 12 years as a machinist. His heart was always in farming, as he was a lifelong farmer, retiring in 1989. When he was younger, he enjoyed hunting. Until his illness, he enjoyed being outside in the summertime. He was an avid Indiana University basketball fan and enjoyed watching their games and watching the Indianapolis Colts.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Steven Roy Woodson of North Vernon; a sister, Barbara Blewitt of Seymour; and brothers, Tom (Donna) Woodson and Ronnie (Janet) Woodson, both of North Vernon, Bob Woodson of Hayden and Delbert (Earline) Woodson of Columbus.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Wanda Roland; and brothers, Jerry Sr., James, Wilfred and Bill Woodson.

The funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Services in North Vernon with the Rev. Caleb Reynolds officiating.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and from 9:30 a.m. until time of service Wednesday at the funeral home.

Burial will be in Vernon Cemetery in Vernon.
