Freshman sets school record

NEW WASHINGTON

Freshman Maddie Roark netted a single-game school record by scoring 35 points in a 66-50 Trinity Lutheran girls basketball win at New Washington on Thursday.

Roark finished with eight field goals (two 3-pointers) and went 17 of 20 from the free-throw line to pass Brittney (Tableing) Creutz’ record of 32 points, which was scored against Edinburgh during the 2007-08 season.

The Cougars have won four of their past five games.

In the first quarter, the Cougars amassed a 15-10 lead.

Following a 33-28 lead at intermission, the Cougars distanced themselves by only allowing nine points to the Mustangs in the third quarter while netting 15 of their own.

The Cougars’ offense continued to roll in the final eight minutes as they outscored the Mustangs 18-13.

Piper Acton, Hailley Peters and Sydney Stuckwisch each nabbed six rebounds to lead the Cougars in the battle of the boards.

The Cougars (7-9) will head to South Decatur on Saturday.
