Trinity basketball player earns honor

Trinity Lutheran freshman Maddie Roark earned District 3 girls honors as the IBCA/Subway Players of the Week for the week of Jan. 12 to 17.

Roark shared honors after she averaged 35.5 points, 3.5 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 5.0 steals in two wins for Trinity Lutheran (8-9).

The 5-foot-4 guard tallied 35 points with four rebounds, four assists and six steals in a 66-50 victory against New Washington. She followed with 36 points, three rebounds, four assists and four steals in a 71-58 triumph against South Decatur. For the two games, Roark was 20 of 36 from the field, 7 of 12 on 3-pointers and 24 of 33 from the free-throw line.

Roark’s 36 points in a game set a new Trinity Lutheran school record.

This is the seventh season for the Indiana Basketball Coaches Association Player of the Week program and the third season it is presented by Subway Restaurants of Indiana, a banner sponsor of the IBCA.

Player of the Week winners are chosen each week from each of the IHSAA’s three districts. Girls winners will be chosen from now through the week following March 7. Boys winners will be chosen from now through the week following March 28.
