Gertrude Villa York, 94, of Seymour, passed away at 7:15 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 22, 2015, at Seymour Crossing.

Gertrude was born on Oct. 21, 1920, in Albany, Kentucky, and was the daughter of Baylen and Leona Riddle Pierce. Her parents preceded her in death.

She married Marion James York on July 24, 1937, in Albany, Kentucky. He died Dec. 16, 1972.

She worked as a cook, retiring from Jerry’s Restaurant after many years.

Gertrude was a member of Reddington Christian Church. She enjoyed sewing and watching nature, but especially loved spending time with her family.

Survivors include her daughter, Carolyn (Danny) Jamison; four sons, Marvin York, Tom (Beverly) York, Jim York and Greg York, all of Seymour; 18 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great grandchildren.

Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son, George William York; daughters, Mary Ellen York, Louise York, Brenda York, Shirley Harris and Stella Waggoner; brothers, William, Leon and Joe Pierce; and a sister, Mary Pierce.

The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Burkholder Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Allison Williams officiating. Burial will follow at Ackeret Chapel Cemetery. 

Visitation will be conducted from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday and 10 a.m. until time of service at the funeral home.
