Walter J. Hurtt Jr., 76, of Seymour, formerly of Little York, passed away Friday, Jan. 16, 2015, in Seymour.

Born May 11, 1938, in Perry County, Kentucky, he was the son of Walter J. Hurtt Sr. and Lairdicie “Pokie” Jones Hurtt. From the age of seven, he was raised by Harley and Bernice Hawn. On Dec. 12, 1993, in Little York, he married Sharon K. Lawson.

He retired from Force Construction, where he worked as a heavy equipment operator. He was a member of Seymour Christian Church and loved hunting and always stayed busy tinkering around the house. He loved traveling, camping and spending time with family and friends.

Survivors include his wife; sons, Greg Hurtt of North Vernon, and David (Missy) Bruck of Scottsburg; daughter, Rhonda (Jeff) Medlock of Salem; brother, Otha Hurtt of Kentucky; sisters, Lois Cunningham of Little York, and June Jones of Scottsburg; grandchildren, Kim Couch, Jesse (Mandy) Bruck, Terra Land and Levi Medlock; great-granddaughter, Elise Summer Rutledge; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; foster parents, Harley and Bernice; brothers, Aaron, Estill, Tilman and Shelby; and sisters, Clara, Allie, Maude and Dorothy.

A celebration of life will be conducted at 3 p.m. Saturday at Woodlawn Life Celebration Centre at 311 Holiday Square Road, Seymour.

There will be a time for gathering and fellowship from 1 until 3 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
