Pastor Aaron Florian recently joined the staff of The Point, 311 Myers St., Seymour, as youth pastor.

Florian, who grew up near Chicago, is a recent graduate of Olivet Nazarene University in Bourbonnais, Illinois.

He came to know the Lord at an early age and was called into full-time ministry while he was still in high school, according to a news release.

His primary responsibilities at The Point will include organizing and leading the ministry to students, Grades 6 through 12. In addition to his leadership with youth, Florian will be active in other ministries of the church, including the band and vocal team for weekly worship services.

He has been involved in international mission trips to the Bahamas, Costa Rica, The Dominican Republic and Guyana. He met his wife, Jen, on a mission trip to Guyana, his sophomore year in college. She also is a graduate of Olivet Nazarene University with a degree in social work. She is an active partner in the youth ministry alongside Aaron.

His ministry experience has included a variety of volunteer opportunities and ministry internships at Trinity Church of the Nazarene in Naperville, Illinois, and First Church of the Nazarene in Kankakee, Illinois.

Florian joins other ministerial staff members at The Point: Joel Burbrink (creative arts pastor), Becky Sanders (director of children and family ministries), Steve Barrett (congregational care) and lead pastor Steve Greene.

“We are very pleased to welcome the Florians to Seymour,” Greene said. “We believe that it is essential to have leaders in the youth department who not only connect with the students, but with parents and guardians as well. Our focus is on ministry partnership. The church’s goal is to partner with the family in the process of nurturing spiritual growth in the lives of children and youth. We believe the Florians have the capacity to be very effective here in every way. We look forward to many wonderful years of ministry together.”

Worship services are offered each Sunday at 9:30 a.m. and 11 a.m. along with Life Groups for all ages on Wednesday beginning at 6:30 p.m.
