Dalton Hoffman, a freshman at Brownstown Central High School, recently was selected to participate as a student ambassador with People to People.

The initiative was created by President Dwight D. Eisenhower in 1956 with a focus on creating a solution to war that would give everyday citizens from different countries opportunities to meet and build relationships with the result of understanding, friendship and lasting peace, according to a news release.

Students are nominated anonymously by a teacher based upon academic merit and picked by an interview process.

Those selected as student ambassadors have the opportunity to visit Italy, Greece and France this summer.

Hoffman, who lives in the Medora area, plans to make that trip, which begins June 9 and will continue through June 28.
