Roger Allen Simmons, 73, of North Vernon, passed away at 10 a.m. Sunday, March 8, 2015, at his residence.

Born Aug. 17, 1941, in Jennings County, he was the son of William and Alma Jane Johnson Simmons, both of whom preceded him in death. On June 11, 1960, in Uniontown, he married Sharon Ann McDonald. She preceded him in death Feb. 22, 2007.

Roger worked 40-plus years for Eaton’s Feed Mill in North Vernon and was a board adviser for Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service. He was a member of Mount Zion Cemetery Association and Jennings County Fair board and was 2009 Citizen of the Year for Jennings County. He attended Paris Crossing High School. His enjoyments were working, farming and coon hunting.

He is survived by two sons, Joe Simmons and Jay Simmons, both of North Vernon; a daughter, Jill (Jeff) Olds of Shelbyville; two brothers, Ralph (Pat) Simmons of Wiota, Iowa, and J.W. (Linda) Simmons of Goshen; three sisters, Mary Alice Painter of Muncie, Juanita Carol (Ken) Bobb of Seymour and Martha Jane (David) Ray of Lexington; six grandchildren, Ryan (Brittany) Olds, Jacob Simmons, Molly Simmons and Eli Simmons, all of North Vernon, Jennifer Simmons of Seymour and Rex (Kate) Olds of Shelbyville; and two great-grandchildren, Michael Allen Flannery and Grant Meadors, both of Seymour.

The funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Services in North Vernon with the Rev. Bob Weeks officiating.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and from noon until time of service on Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Vernon Cemetery.
