Richard E. Tate Jr., 51, of Seymour, passed away Monday, March 16, 2015, at Saints Mary & Elizabeth Hospital in Louisville, Kentucky.

Born Dec. 28, 1963, in Kokomo, he was the son of Richard E. Tate and Barbara Bruno Lucas, both of whom survive. He had a great love for his wife, Julia D. Kriete, whom he married Feb. 24, 1990, at First United Methodist Church. She survives.

Richard graduated from Seymour High School in 1982 and was a member of First United Methodist Church of Seymour, Sons of the American Legion and Hoosier Beemers Inc. He had been employed with Seymour Truck Sales & Service as a mechanic truck wrecker operator for 10 years. His passion was to ride motorcycles as one would say he ate, drank and slept motorcycling.

Besides his parents and his wife, survivors include brothers, Robert S. Lucas, Michael S. Lucas and Jim Tate; sister, Julie Tate; maternal grandfather, Robert (Jeannie) Bruno; maternal grandmother, Naomi Horseman; paternal grandfather, Karl Tate; mother- and father-in-law, Joyce and Vernon Prange; brothers- and sisters-in-law, Roger (Phyllis) Kriete, Dwight (Karla) Eddy, Jeffrey (Melody) Kriete and Teresa (Kevin) Dukes; and several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father-in-law, Carl Kriete Jr.; grandfather, Donald C. Horseman; and grandmother, Dorothy Tate.

The funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at First United Methodist Church, 201 E. Third St. in Seymour, with the Rev. Sandy Cooper and the Rev. Steve Cherry officiating. Burial will follow at Riverview Cemetery in Seymour.

Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Friday at Voss Funeral Home in Seymour and from 9:30 a.m. until time of service Saturday at the church.
