A 13-year-old local financial-planning company recently underwent a name change.

The switch from Financial T.I.P.S. to Beacon Wealth was made to more accurately describe the services offered by the Brownstown firm, according to a news release from owner Trina Hanner.

Hanner, a certified financial planner, began the firm in 2002 as a hybrid tax-preparation and financial-planning company.

As the business grew, however, the tax-preparation business was shaved off to allow her to focus on financial planning, specifically for individuals at or near retirement, Hanner said.

The firm is at 405 N. Main St.
