Skyline Drive access road closed

The Brownstown access road to Skyline Drive, a scenic route through the Jackson-Washington State Forest, is closed until further notice.

The cause is an embankment slide caused by recent rain that makes the route unsafe, according to a news release from the Indiana Department of Natural Resources. The Brownstown entrance is accessed by traveling South Poplar Street, which becomes County Road 50W south of town.

Visitors to Skyline Drive must now access the general area using only the Starve Hollow Road entrance (south) or northeast entrance off County Road 100E just south of Slygo Hill.

It is unknown how long repairs to the South Poplar Street route will take.
