Derek James Miller, 24, of Columbus, passed away early Saturday morning, March 21, 2015, from injuries sustained in a motor vehicle accident.

Born March 2, 1991, he was the son of Michael K. and Stephanie Trinkle Miller, both of whom survive.

Derek was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Seymour. He was a 2010 graduate of Columbus North High School. He was employed in the trades as a pipefitter and plumber with Local Union 440, having completed three years of his apprenticeship. He also was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles in Seymour.

Derek had a love of the outdoors, especially fishing. His dogs and extra large tropical fish aquarium were a source of enjoyment, but his greatest source of enjoyment and satisfaction was found in the people around him. Derek passed the time hanging out with his friends, or more importantly, hanging out with his family. He liked to “pick on” his sister. Derek will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him and whom he loved.

Other survivors include his sister, Shawna Miller; his maternal grandparents, Jim and Carol Trinkle; and paternal grandparents, Bill and Veronica Miller.

The service of Christian burial will be 3:30 p.m. Tuesday at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Seymour with the Rev. Ralph Blomenberg, the Rev. James Rodriguez and Vicar Daniel Merz officiating. Burial will follow at Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery in Seymour.

Visitation will be from 1:30 p.m. until time of service Tuesday at the church.

Memorials may be made to Immanuel Lutheran Church.
