Michael D. Harden, 74, of Columbus, died at 9:45 a.m. Friday, March 20, 2015, at Columbus Regional Hospital.

Born March 19, 1941, in Columbus, he was the son of William Lee “Eppie” and Margaret Ferry Harden, both of whom preceded him in death. On Sept. 16, 1962, he married Olivia “Libby” Ortstadt, and she survives.

He was a U.S. Army veteran stationed in Panama. He was honorably discharged April 13, 1962. He continued to serve our country as a member of the Indiana National Guard until June 23, 1974.

He retired from Cummins Engine Co. in July 1997 after 35 years of service, and he was a member of the Diesel Workers Union. He most recently was working at the Eagles Lodge in Columbus.

He enjoyed membership at the Eagles Lodge, where he was a lifetime member, the North Vernon Moose Lodge and Edinburgh American Legion.

Besides his wife of 52 years, survivors include children, Lisa (Tom) Milenbaugh, Amy Rixmann and Michael D. Harden II, all of Columbus; grandchildren, Joshua, Jade and Jacob Milenbaugh, Zach Rixmann and Ashley, Alexis and Emma Harden; great-grandchildren, Addisyn and Preston; siblings, Sharon Dial of Seymour, Pat (Carolyne) Harden of Columbus, Sheila (Dickie) Littrell of Columbus, John T. (Una) Harden of Arizona and Shannon Harden of Franklin; and many nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by siblings, Tami Harden, Cecelia Stamcombe and Kathy Smith.

The funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Barkes, Weaver and Glick Funeral Home on Washington Street in Columbus with the Rev. Patrick Galligar officiating.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today and from 9:30 a.m. until service time Tuesday at the funeral home.

Burial will be at Flat Rock Baptist Cemetery. Full military rites will be presented by the Bartholomew County Veterans Honor Guard.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Our Hospice of South Central Indiana.
