Mary Belle Ferris, 95, of Medora, died at 7:45 p.m. Wednesday, March 25, 2015, at Columbus Regional Hospital.

Born Jan. 3, 1920, in Jackson County, she was the daughter of William Hovey Huffman and Florence Goins Huffman, both of whom preceded her in death. She was married to John Lawrence Ferris, who passed away in 1996.

Mary Belle was retired as an elementary school teacher in Texas and served in the Women’s Auxiliary Army Corps during World War II. She loved doing seashell pictures and gardening.

Survivors include two sons, John Huffman Ferris of Grand Prairie, Texas, and Edwin Ferris of Medora; a daughter, Lisa Ferris of Little Rock, Arkansas; and a sister, Jean Akers of Seymour.

Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers, William Huffman and Hubert Huffman; and a sister, Evelyn Wallace.

The funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Hague Funeral Home in Medora. Burial will follow at Weddleville Lutheran Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until time of service Saturday at the funeral home.
