Bridge overlay work set to begin in Seymour

The Indiana Department of Transportation plans to begin a project Monday to repair and overlay a bridge deck on U.S. 50 about a half-mile west of Interstate 65 in Seymour.

The work at the 77-foot concrete structure spanning Sandy Branch Creek requires single-lane closure, and motorists will soon notice slowed traffic at work sites, according to a news release from the state.

Dave O’Mara is the contractor for this $511,523 project that includes full-depth concrete patching, milling and hydro-demolition at the slab structure.

Once repairs have been made, a new 2-inch latex modified bridge deck overlay will be installed to smooth the driving surface and extend service life. New pavement approaches also will be put in place.

One travel lane should remain open in each direction at all times. The contract allows restrictions to continue for up to 90 days.
