Norman Wayne Bennett, 71, of Brownstown, died Monday, March 30, 2015, at his home. He had been ill for several years.

Born Oct. 23, 1943, in Shelbyville, he was the son of Charles and Doloris Craig Bennett, both of whom preceded him in death. On Sept. 27, 1989, at Shelbyville, he married Raygina L. Smith. She survives.

He was a retired tree trimmer and former security guard at Waldron High School in Shelbyville.

Mr. Bennett loved sitting on his front porch watching the world go by. He especially loved his five granddaughters who were the love of his life and really enjoyed watching the two oldest ones plays sports. He enjoyed going to flea markets and loved his birds. His family describe him as a “wonderful man.”

Other survivors include children, Robert T. Wayne Bennett of Brownstown, Doloris Ann Bennett of Lawrenceburg and John Wayne Smith of Brownstown; grandchildren, Angel Sage Bennett and Angie Sabra Bennett, and Leela Ruthann Smith, Sharon Simone Smith and Madalyn Grace Smith; brothers, Rudolph Bennett of Florida, Danny Bennett and Ronnie Bennett of Shelbyville; and two sisters, Linda Charwenske and Carol Bennett, both of Shelbyville.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Bobby Bennett.

The funeral service will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Johnson Funeral Home in Vallonia with Scott Erwin officiating.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until time of service Friday at the funeral home.

Burial will take place at Houston Cemetery.
