Richard L. Schocke, 83, of Salem, passed away Thursday, April 2, 2015, at 12:35 a.m. at Meadow View Health Care Center.

Born Oct. 17, 1931, in Salem, he was the son of Gail Cleo and Beatrice Isabelle Hannon Schocke, both of whom preceded him in death. On June 8, 1956, he married Nancy L. Graves Schocke. She survives.

Richard was a retired farmer and member of Walnut Grove Christian Church. He was a staff sergeant with the U.S. Army during the Korean War and had been a life-long resident of Washington County. He was a member of American Legion Cecil Grimes Post 41, Salem, and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6636 in Salem.

Beside his wife, survivors include two sons, Mark R. (Misty) Schocke, Vallonia, and Michael W. (Susan) Schocke, Salem; two brothers, Mickey E. (Joan) Schocke, Salem, and David Schocke, Grand Island, Nebraska; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by daughter, Sandra Gail Schocke, four brothers and two sisters.

The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Dawalt Funeral Home, Salem, with Gary Schocke officiating.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday and from 9 a.m. until time of service Tuesday. Interment will follow at Crown Hill Cemetery with full military honors.
