Joe Edward Vandiver, 78, of Seymour, passed away Monday, April 20, 2015, at home with his loving wife of 40 years, Mary; his baby girl, Sherilyn; and son-in-law, Michael, by his side.

Born Sept. 24, 1936, in Lebanon Junction, Kentucky, he was the son of Wilbert and Pauline Mobley Vandiver, both of whom preceded him in death. On April 10, 1975, in Oneida, Tennessee, he married Mary V. French.

He served in the United States Army from 1961 to 1963.

Joe lived a long life filled with many adventurous vacations to numerous states throughout the U.S., Canada and Mexico. One of his favorite trips was going out West with his wife and sister-in-law (his sidekick, Clara).

He enjoyed a variety of hobbies, including woodworking, putting puzzles together, model cars, motorcycle riding, string art, watching old westerns and nature.

He also enjoyed his rides through the wildlife refuge with his wife, brother-in-law, Donnie, and Lovelita.

He leaves behind his wife of 40 years, Mary; son, Troy Vandiver; daughters, Tammy (Damon) White and Sherilyn (Michael) Locke; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Elizabeth (George) Adams and Laura (Earl) Mayes.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, William; and a sister, Hallie Henderson.

The funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Voss Chapel in Seymour with the Rev. Bill Weaver officiating. Burial will follow at Reddington Cemetery with a Voss dove release.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday and from 9 a.m. until time of service Monday at the funeral home.
