George Melvin “Mel” Ruddick, 76, was called to eternal life with the Lord at 11:58 a.m. Thursday, April 23, 2015, at Forest Path in Seymour surrounded by his family.

Born March 16, 1939, in Cupertino, California, he was the son of Walter and Elizabeth Ruddick, both of whom preceded him in death. He was married to Ann Laverne Walker Ruddick for 52 years, and she preceded him in death.

Melvin loved to travel, having visited all 50 states. He loved to drive his Corvette and Shelby Mustangs around and participated in car shows and parades. He especially enjoyed spending time with his wife and family.

He served in the National Guard for one year after high school. He worked at Panasote for 30 years and then retired from Seymour Tubing in 2009.

Survivors include his sister, Zethel Faye Gorman; three children, Melvin Allen (Laura) Ruddick, Mark Andrew (Patty) Ruddick and Melody Ann (Randy) Thompson; five grandchildren, Marc Ruddick, Zach Ruddick, Seth Thompson, Nikki Thompson and T.J. Thompson; and two great-grandchildren, Teagen and Teeann Thompson.

Besides his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his younger sister, Norma Jane Johnson.

The funeral service will be at 2:30 p.m. Monday at Voss Chapel in Seymour. Burial will follow at Cana Cemetery east of Uniontown with a Voss dove release.

Visitation will be from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday and from 1:30 p.m. until time of service Monday at the funeral home.

The family would like to thank the staff of Forest Path for the loving care they gave Melvin during his stay, and the staff of Hospice of Schneck Medical Center for their loving help in this difficult time.
