Marie E. Newkirk, 90, of Seymour, passed away at 9:28 a.m. Thursday, April 23, 2015, at Lutheran Community Home in Seymour.

Born Aug. 1, 1924, in Jackson County, she was the daughter of Louis and Catharine Darlage Newkirk, both of whom preceded her in death.

Marie loved living in the country, having lived her entire life in the same house where she was born and raised.

Fore than 50 years, she was a seamstress at the shirt factory. She enjoyed gardening, being outdoors and especially her flowers.

Marie had a strong Christian faith, shown by being a longtime, loving caregiver for her father, Louis, and brother, Omer, until their deaths. She was a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church-Waymansville, where she taught Sunday school for more than 20 years.

Marie was deeply loved by her family, her church family and members of her community.

Survivors include her three nephews, Michael (Sheryl) Newkirk, Tom (Diane) Newkirk and Kenneth (Jackie) Newkirk; niece, Joyce (Randy) Sims; and numerous great-nieces and -nephews.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by four brothers, Clarence, Omer, John and Leonard; a sister, Wilma; and a niece, Jean Franke.

The funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Peter Lutheran Church-Waymansville with the Rev. John Beabout officiating. Burial will follow at St. Peter Lutheran Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Burkholder Funeral Chapel in Seymour and from 9 a.m. until time of service Monday at the church.
