Anytime Fitness center to conduct free exercise sessions

In an attempt to raise self-esteem, promote physical activity and offer some fun, Anytime Fitness will be conducting free outdoor workout sessions, beginning Saturday.

As part of a corporate-wide event, the outdoor workouts will be from 10 to 11 a.m. every Saturday in May at Gaiser Park in Seymour. The five events will be open to members and non-members of the gym.

Corey Lynch, district manager at Anytime Fitness, said the combination of being outside while in a group setting will hopefully motivate the community to participate.

“We want to help our community realize that working out and being fit doesn’t have to be dreadful,” the 27-year-old Seymour resident said. Lynch also is a personal trainer.

The workouts will be mostly body weight exercises. However, the gym also will bring a few pieces of equipment. A staff of two to three people will be on site.

Lynch said in today’s world, working out can be overwhelming with so many fad diets and workout programs.

But he said the May sessions are supposed to be enjoyable while also raising self-esteem of those who come.

“In a society when the obesity epidemic is at an all-time high, we want to raise awareness to the fact that being healthy doesn’t have to be hard,” he said. “We want it to be fun. Having a fun, inviting atmosphere brings the greatest chance of sustained results.”

The gym also will have two weeklong passes on hand for any participants who are not currently members and are interested in the facility.

Anyone older than 13 is allowed to attend, and any child younger than 18 must be accompanied by a legal guardian and sign a liability waiver. All participants will need to sign an offsite waiver.

The workouts will be weather permitting, and participants should come in appropriate workout attire.
