Melvin Lee “Steve” Meyer, 84, of Seymour, passed away Monday, May 4, 2015, at Schneck Medical Center.

Born Jan. 27, 1931, in Seymour, he was the son of Frank and Dorothy White Meyer. On June 17, 1951, in Waymansville, he married Janet Lou Newkirk, who preceded him in death on Jan. 24, 2007.

Steve was a veteran of the Korean conflict, having served in the U. S. Air Force. He had been employed at Arvin-Meritor for 26 years and at Cummins Engine Co. for seven years, retiring in 2000.

He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and American Legion Post 89 and enjoyed watching sports, especially the Cincinnati Reds and Indiana University, doing puzzles and bird watching. He treasured his time with family and friends.

Survivors include his children, Rex (Teresa) Meyer of Brownstown, Teresa (Ron) Walters of Bloomington, Debbie (Carl) Sobieralski of Indianapolis, and Rick (Jennifer) Meyer of Seymour; grandchildren, Nicole (Clay) Ault, Danielle Meyer, Brooke Meyer, Aaron (Traci) Walters, Kyle Walters, Jenna Walters, Zach Walters, Blake Sobieralski, Haley Sobieralski, Carly Sobieralski, Tyler Sobieralski, Grace Meyer, Eli Meyer, Jordan Meyer; sister, Ruth Scifres; and close companion, Joy Nolan.

Besides his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a brother, Walter Meyer, and a sister, Lois Meyer.

The funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Burkholder Funeral Chapel with Pastor Ralph Blomenberg officiating.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday and from 9 a.m. until time of service on Friday at the funeral home

Burial will take place at Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery with military graveside rites provided by American Legion 89, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1925, Disabled American Veterans 47 and Vietnam Veterans 7, all of Seymour.
