Seymour senior earns honor

A Seymour High School senior is among 34 Indiana high school seniors earning 2015 Regional Academic All-Star status.

Daniel Hauersperger was honored with the other students at a luncheon April 15 at the Indiana Roof Ballroom in Indianapolis. Also recognized that day were the 40 seniors named 2015 Indiana Academic All-Stars.

The program is produced by the Indiana Association of School Principals with support from four state universities and three corporate partners.

The students were selected from a field of 250 nominees from the state’s public and private accredited schools.

Each school chooses one senior for consideration for the honor. From those names, a selection committee chooses the regional winners — representing five regions in Indiana — and the 40 Indiana Academic All-Stars.

Selection of each school’s nominee is based upon a mathematical formula that combines the SAT and ACT composite score and the seven-semester grade-point average; academic achievements and honors, academic courses and academic extracurricular activities; and other extracurricular activities, community service and leadership qualities.

Each nominated student submits an essay recognizing his or her most influential educator.

Lt. Gov. Sue Ellspermann and Superintendent of Public Instruction Glenda Ritz provided a welcome and congratulatory words to the students and teachers at the luncheon.

Hauersperger is the son of Lenny and Maria Hauersperger of Seymour.
