Joan Navas Weddell, 62, formerly of Seymour, passed away Thursday, May 14, 2015, in Indianapolis with her family by her side.

Born Nov. 8, 1952, in Queens, New York, she was the daughter of Anthony and Geovana Tita Navas, both of whom preceded her in death. She married the love of her life, Thomas J. Weddell, on June 5, 1983, in West Islip, New York, and he survives.

Joan was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Seymour chapter of Order of the Eastern Star, Lucullus Temple of Pythian Sisters of Indiana in Brownstown and a Grand Helper for the International Order of Rainbow for Girls in Indiana.

She worked many years at Larrison’s Diner as their cook and at RHG Electronics in New York as an assembler. Music was very important to Joan. Besides singing at any and every opportunity, she was the choir director for Trinity United Methodist Church and was formerly a member of James Street Players in New York.

Other survivors include three children, Toniann (Thomas) Harris, Matthew Weddell and Jennifer Weddell; three grandchildren, Aiden Christopher, Dominic Reed and Zachary Isaac Harris; and several nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Elvira “Vera” Navas and Vincenza “Vinnie” Kastanek; and two brothers, Robert Navas and Ronald Navas Sr.

The funeral service will be at 5 p.m. Monday at Trinity United Methodist Church, 333 S. Chestnut St., Seymour, with an Eastern Star service at 4:45 pm.

Family and friends may call from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Voss Chapel in Seymour and from 4 p.m. until time of service Monday at the church.

Memorials may be made to Trinity United Methodist Church, International Order of the Rainbow for Girls or the Leukemia Society.
