Dora E. Dorsey, 87, a lifelong resident of Crothersville, passed away at 6:46 p.m. Tuesday, May 19, 2015, at Hosparus Inpatient Care Center in Louisville, Kentucky.

Born Feb. 18, 1928, in Crothersville, she was the daughter of Hayden L. Chandler and Ann Mitchell, both of whom preceded her in death. On May 8, 1948, she married Bob Dorsey, who passed away at the age of 56 on June 2, 1975.

Dora was a 1946 graduate of Crothersville High School. She was a member of Immanuel United Church of Christ, where she served as a deaconess and was active in the women’s guild; Crothersville Senior Citizens; Happy Appronettes Homemakers; and The Magazine Club in Seymour. Dora was very proud of earning her 3,000-hour pin for volunteering as a Pink Lady at Schneck Medical Center in Seymour. She was a past member of the Order of Eastern Star in Crothersville.

Dora retired from Crothersville Community Schools as the school cook, and she also worked for the Crothersville Times office labeling and stuffing newspapers. Dora always looked forward to attending the Chandler reunions, reading her Bible and studying her daily devotions. She loved riding her bike all over Crothersville.

Survivors include her five children and their spouses, John (Cheryl) Dorsey of Crothersville, Kevin (Teresa) Dorsey of Valrico, Florida, Dan (Wanda) Dorsey of Crothersville, Maryanne Dorsey of Ellettsville, and Tom (Debbie) Dorsey of Crothersville; 10 grandchildren, Andy Dorsey of Crothersville, Melanie (Joe) Martin of Scottsburg, Eric (Tiffany Fabian) Dorsey of Spokane, Washington, Christina Dorsey and Jordan Dorsey, both of Valrico, Florida, Jason Dorsey of Columbus, Justin Dorsey of Seymour, and Stephanie Brumett, Brandie Wray and Nate Dorsey, all of Crothersville; 11 great-grandchildren, Ashley Martin, Abbey Martin, Jacob Martin, Elise Dorsey, Oliver Dorsey, Natasha Dorsey Egea, Tyler Banks, Morgan Banks, Jacob James, Lexi James and Raegan Wray; and a great-great-grandchild, Rylee Martin.

The funeral service will be 11 a.m. Friday at Immanuel United Church of Christ in Crothersville with burial to follow at Crothersville Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4:30 until 8 p.m. today at Adams Family Funeral Home & Crematory in Crothersville, and from 10 a.m. until time of service Friday at the church.
