The Jackson County Visitor Center board of directors recently awarded developmental grants to five county organizations, totaling $20,000.
The grants include $2,500 for a multi-purpose stage for Brownstown Heritage Park; $1,000 for the expansion of the Freetown Pershing Township Museum; and $2,500 for repairs to buildings at the Jackson County History Center.
Also approved were $5,000 for a septic system at the Joe Jackson Hotel in Vallonia and $9,000 for enclosed dugouts and a batting cage addition to Seymour’s Kasting Park via the Seymour Youth League.
The developmental grants were established to offer one-to-one funding match assistance to nonprofit groups; a city, county or public organization; tourism-related business; or an organizational combination thereof for new projects or enhancements designed to have a direct impact on Jackson County and tourism.
Developmental grant checks will be presented at the June 3 board meeting.
