City man hurt in mobile home fire

A Seymour man was flown to Indianapolis on Monday evening after he suffered burns in a fire that destroyed the mobile home where he was living.

Fire Chief Brad Lucas said Tuesday morning few details were available about the fire, reported at 8:02 p.m. Monday at 734 Peak Ave.

Lucas said medical personnel with Jackson County Emergency Medical Services was treating the man for burns on his head when firefighters arrived, and he was taken from the scene before firefighters could talk with him.

He said the only information he had about the man was that he suffered burns to his head. Two cats were able to escape the fire without injury, Lucas added.

Lucas said the cause of the fire, which originated in the living room, remains under investigation.

Seymour Detective C.J. Foster also is assisting with the case.

According to Capt. John Kirby’s report, the fire caused an estimated $35,000 to the mobile home and $25,000 to personal property inside of it, Lucas said.
