Mary Margaret Mann Abel, 91, of Seymour, passed away Sunday, June 7, 2015, at home surrounded by her family.

Born Dec. 4, 1923, in Freetown, she was the daughter of James McNiece and Nevada Ann Kerner Mann, both of whom preceded her in death. On Sept. 14, 1940, in North Vernon, she married Floyd Long Abel, who preceded her in death.

Mary was a member of Freetown United Methodist Church. She was very active in a variety of charitable organizations in the community including Freetown Home Extension Homemakers Club, Order of the Eastern Star, Veterans of Foreign Wars Ladies Auxiliary, Fraternal Order of the Eagles and American Legion.

Mary spent her entire life as a homemaker taking care of her family. She enjoyed spending time with her family and being “Grammy” to all of her grandchildren. She was always quilting and taking care of her rose garden. Mary also was known for her love of cooking and baking and was always willing to share her recipes with anyone who wanted them.

Mary is survived by her children, Marian Abel (Chuck) Rochner, Willard Earl (Cathy) Abel, Margaret Ella (James) Hayes and Marsha Jane (Fred) Waskom; 10 grandchildren, Angie Rochner, Candice Stenftenagel, Dawn Lang, Cary Waskom, Ryan Watts, Jessica Wischmeier, Roy Watts, Sandra Roeser, Tyler Waskom and Andrew Abel; 25 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.

Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a twin daughter, Maxine Abel; four brothers, Frank Mann, Orville Mann, Leroy Man and Earl Mann; and five sisters, Mildred Wineinger, Eleanor Cross, Esther Reed, Genieve Burrell and Alma Russell.

The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Voss Chapel with the Rev. David Ison officiating.

Burial will be at Riverview Cemetery.

Visitation will be from to 8 p.m. Wednesday and from 10 a.m. until time of service Thursday.

Memorials may be made to Freetown United Methodist Church or American Heart Association.
