Tours of Bedford limestone, historic buildings on tap

0

Free walking tours of historic downtown Bedford will begin at 5 and 6 p.m. Friday at the Lawrence County Museum.

Bedford Revitalization Inc.’s historic preservation committee will serve as host of the tours, which are approximately one hour.

The tours will allow participants to see a portion of the interior of Regions Bank and the interior of at least one other building to show the historic tin ceilings typical of several buildings on the square.

They also include historic photos and information about how the downtown square has changed over time. Ghost stories and architectural information on the buildings will be woven into the story of Bedford’s downtown.

The tours are part of Limestone Month and will begin at the Lawrence County Museum. The museum is hosting a limestone exhibit during the Barbecue at the Quarry. Those who attend the walking tour are encouraged to come early to view the limestone exhibit before the tour.

Pre-registrations are requested and may be made by calling Lawrence County Tourism at 812-849-1090.
