An event to benefit a scholarship fund and local nonprofits is set for July 17 and 18 at Kingpins Bowl, 643 S. Airport Road, Seymour.

The first Laikyn Field Scholarship Shootout will feature bowling tournaments, coaching clinics, raffles, a blood drive, a cookout, an auction and live music. There also will be scholarships for youth bowlers and cash prizes for adult bowlers.

The tournament, which is open to the public, is in memory of Laikyn Field, who was 16 when she died Oct. 5, 2013.

On July 17, the Bumper Bowling Fun Tournament (one adult and one youth ages 2 to 6; cost $15 per team) will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Score 60 (coaching on bowling techniques and lane reading; cost $10 per bowler) will go from 6 to 9 p.m. That will consist of instructional and actual bowling, so you should bring your equipment. The day will conclude with cosmic bowling ($10 per bowler) from 9:30 to 11:30 p.m. as a youth bowling fundraiser.

The bowling schedule for July 18 consists of a youth scholarship tournament (sanctioned bowlers only; $30 per bowler) from 9 a.m. to noon; an adult/youth scholarship tournament (youth has to be sanctioned, adult does not; $30 per bowler) is at 2 and 4 p.m.; an an adult CASH 4 game sweeper handicap (scratch/women’s available; $30 per bowler) will be at 7 p.m.

Also July 18, Indiana Blood Center will have its Bloodmobile on site, and there will be a cookout fundraiser with hamburger, fries and a drink for $6. Both events run from 2 to 7 p.m.

Live music will be provided by This Old Guitar from 4 to 6 p.m. and Hardknots from 7 to 10 p.m.

Proceeds from all of the events will go to the Laikyn Field Memorial Fund to create scholarships and donations to local nonprofit groups.
