Maya Hauersperger, the daughter of Len and Maria Hauersperger, recently was chosen by the American Legion Post 89 Ladies Auxiliary to attend the 74th annual session of Hoosier Girls State conducted June 21 to 27 on the campus of Trine University in Angola.

Hauersperger, a junior at Seymour High School, joined approximately 550 other young women for this government program designed to educate the leaders of tomorrow in the duties, privileges, rights and responsibilities of citizenship, according to a news release.

This session of government and practical politics is nonpartisan and nonpolitical.

The students began their weeklong adventure by registering to vote, where they received an assignment to a mythical political party which at registration time had no political organization, party beliefs or platform, all established by the delegates within three days into the session.
