Seymour extension homemakers enjoy a piece of history

Six members of the Seymour City Extension Homemakers met July 1 at the Jackson County Visitor Center. Doris Keyser and Marion Slade were co-hostesses.

Arann Banks, executive director of the visitor center, shared some of the history of the freight depot that houses the visitor center. She also shared interesting tidbits of Jackson County history along with upcoming events around the county.

President Nancy Hammond passed out 2015-16 yearbooks and the calendar of meetings for the upcoming year. Secretary Vicki Tritle conducted roll call and read minutes from the May and June meetings. Treasurer Mary Ellen Snyder gave the treasurer’s report. Hammond won the auction item.

Slade, the leadership development chairwoman, told of several Indiana laws that took effect July 1. Keyser, the continuing education chairwoman, gave tips on how to prevent identity theft of deceased individuals.

The next meeting will be at 6:30 p.m. today at Snyder’s home.
