Relay For Life of Jackson County conducted a wrap-up party July 27 in the meeting room at MainSource Bank in Seymour.

The May 1 event featured 33 teams and 326 participants, including 85 survivors and 14 American Cancer Society Community Action Network members.

The event raised $53,533.43, and 15 teams raised more than $1,000. Teams have until Aug. 31 to add their total toward the county’s $62,000 goal. They may do so by mailing a check to Melissa Pressler at the American Cancer Society’s regional office at 5250 Vogel Road, Suite A, Evansville, IN 47715.

The top five teams recognized for raising more than $2,500 were Epsilon Sigma Alpha One Step One Miracle, Relay Warriors, Caring Hearts, Immanuel Cancer Fighters and The Colwell Crushers.

Pressler, the American Cancer Society’s community manager, gave a mission moment on summer sun safety awareness and defined and promoted Community Action Network.

Those in attendance received information from an online survey by 2015 event participants and discussed successful things from the event and improvements needed for 2016, according to a news release.

Volunteers are needed to coordinate next year’s event. Anyone interested in participating in the 2016 event leadership team may contact Pressler at [email protected].

Local businesses are invited to raise money to fight cancer and participate in a national cupcake challenge through Aug. 23 by selling paper cupcakes for $1. Participating business will be recognized on ACS social media sites and at the 2016 event. Interested businesses can email Pressler.
