Tigers win in 5 sets

CAMPBELLSBURG — The Crothersville volleyball team went the distance, beating sectional rival West Washington 23-25, 25-20, 25-23, 15-25, 15-11 on Monday for their first win of the season.

The Tigers’ Maddie Riley had a strong outing making 26 of 31 hits with five kills and going 17 of 18 serving with three aces.

Brittany Clem was perfect from the line, making all 20 serves with an ace and teammate Chasta Lamb finished 17 of 18 and had two aces.

The Tigers (1-1) will host Orleans tonight in their home opener.

BOYS TENNIS

Braves lose tough match to Dragons

All but one match that the Brownstown Central boys tennis team played Monday went three sets.

The Dragons were able to finish strong in a majority of their matches, ultimately defeating the Braves 4-1.

At No. 2 doubles, the tandem of Ethan Carlin and Sy Zickler took the lone win for the Braves defeating Sammy Padgett and Cooper Cundip 6-3, 4-6, 6-1.

Josh Newton defeated Lute Lahrman 3-6, 6-2, 6-1 at No. 1 singles.

At No. 3 singles, Kent Criminger forced a third set by winning the second 7-5, but dropped the final set 6-1. 

In No. 1 doubles action, Nate Eckert and Jack Hawkins, of Silver Creek defeated the Braves’ Sam Hoff and Riley Carlin 6-2, 4-6, 6-3.

The Braves (2-1) will travel Thursday to face sectional foe Scottsburg.
