A society designed to educate the public about the history and future of blues music recently was formed.

The South Central Indiana Blues Society also has the mission of supporting and promoting local blues artists and preserving the blues as an American art form, according to a news release.

The Nashville-based society was incorporated as a nonprofit organization July 14 and currently is directed by a board of nine musicians and blues enthusiasts.

The society will organize musical and educational events in the south central part of the state in partnership with communities and local businesses. The society is accepting memberships at various levels.
