Scottsburg edges Braves

SCOTTSBURG — Brownstown Central fell to reigning Seymour Sectional champion Scottsburg 3-2 on Thursday.

At No. 3 singles, the Braves’ Kent Criminger defeated Caleb White 6-2 and the No. 2 doubles team of Sy Zickler and Ethan Carlin bested Malachi Carr and Marks Hays 6-1, 6-1.

In No. 2 singles play, the Braves’ Cole Brock and Scottsburg’s Mason Noble went the distance.

Noble took the first set 6-1, but Brock was able to force a third set by winning the second 6-4.

In the third set, Noble came-out on top 6-4.

At No. 1 singlesĀ  Isaac Evertt defeated the Braves’ Lute Lahrman 6-1, 6-1.

The other Warriors’ win was at No. 1 doubles as Jordan Shuler and Isiah Walker downed Riley Carlin and Sam Hoff 6-3, 6-4.

Cougars fall to Southwestern

HANOVER — Trinity Lutheran fell to Southwestern (Hanover) 3-2 on Thursday.

Both doubles teams managed wins on the afternoon for the Cougars.

Matt Stuckwisch and Bailey Baker took a tough 6-3, 7-5 win at No. 1, and Hunter Morgan and Spencer Muhlbach took their No. 2 doubles match 6-3, 6-3.

At No. 2 singles, Jonathan Keith went three sets, falling 6-1, 4-6, 6-3.

GIRLS SOCCER

Southport bests Cougars

INDIANAPOLIS — Trinity Lutheran fell at Southport 3-0 on Thursday.

Erin Sullivan led Southport’s charge by scoring a goal in each half.

Southport built a 2-0 lead at intermission and finished with 24 shots on the evening to the Cougars’ 10.

In goal, Hailley Peters recorded 21 saves for the Cougars.

Saturday, the Cougars (1-2) will host Milan at 10 a.m.

VOLLEYBALL

Paoli tops Medora

PAOLI — Paoli topped Medora in straight games 25-8, 25-21, 25-18 on Thursday.

Avery Carney led the Hornets’ hitting, making all 13 attempts with two kills.

Kailen Flynn went 10 of 13 hitting with one kill and made all five of her serves.

The Hornets fall to 0-4 on the season and will travel to Lighthouse Christian on Tuesday.
