Murphy’s USA coming to Seymour

Walmart is bringing a new option to Seymour for customers to fill up their gas tanks and buy snacks and drinks.

The Arkansas-based company plans to add a Murphy USA gas station and convenience store to the Walmart Supercenter at 1600 E. Tipton St.

Gina Darlage with the city’s planning and zoning department said Friday the city approved Walmart’s request for a replatting of the property in June.

That change sections off nearly one acre of the store’s parking lot on the northwest corner to install fuel tanks and construct the station and convenience store.

Darlage said the company will present a site-development plan to the plan commission in October for approval and are awaiting the state’s OK to begin construction.

Skip Schneider, with CEI Engineering, based in Scranton, Pennsylvania, said the company is working to get all the federal, state and local permits needed in place.

Although he wasn’t able to provide any numbers on how much the project is costing, he did have some details about size and location.

“There will be four gas islands with eight pumps total,” he said. “When you first come in, they will be off to the right in the area behind a few businesses that are there.”

The convenience store will be around 1,200 square feet and will be similar to other Murphy USA’s in the state, including in Columbus.

Murphy USA has been in operation since 1996 and partners with Walmart to offer savings on gas when customers pay with a Walmart gift card or credit card.

“There are a number of these stores in Indiana, so it’s good that people are familiar with it,” Schneider said.
