Sadie Maxie Sturgeon, 89, of Brownstown, passed away at 8:41 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 27, 2015, at Hoosier Christian Village in Brownstown.

Born Dec. 15, 1926, in Manchester, Kentucky, she was the daughter of John and Mamie Depew Maxie, both of whom preceded her in death. On May 24, 1946, in Jeffersonville, she married Donald Waskom Sturgeon, who survives in Brownstown.

Sadie was a member of Tampico Christian Church, where she volunteered for vacation Bible school, always sent cakes and pies for events, helped supply clothing and shoes for Charlie’s Kids and the community each year. She loved to babysit and take her grandchildren or any child to church events. She just enjoyed being with her family. She liked entertaining family and friends at home, caring for others, and decorating the house and lawn to coordinate with the holiday season. She worked as an aide at Lutheran Home and was in charge of housekeeping at Hoosier Christian Village.

Other survivors include four children, David Sturgeon of Brownstown, Roger (Cassandra) Sturgeon of North Vernon, Frieda Sturgeon Fentress of Taylorsville, Kentucky, and Mike (Debbie) Sturgeon of Eustis, Florida; 12 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; seven siblings, Steve Maxie of Tampico, Gilbert Maxie of Crothersville, Ada Shirley of Tampico, Georgia Blair of Crothersville, Teddie Densford of Brownstown, Ruth (William) Reynolds of Tampico, and Ethel (Jim) Benson of Brownstown; and several nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Danny Sturgeon, and a brother, Burchel Maxie.

The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Adams Family Funeral Home & Crematory in Crothersville with Pastor Randy King officiating. Burial will be at Crothersville Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday and from 10 a.m until time of service at the funeral home.
