Seymour sophomore setter honored

­­Sophomore Jessica Lucas (Seymour) was honored Monday afternoon as Conference USA’s Setter of the Week after helping the Lady Toppers finish the week with a 4­-0 record as WKU extended its current winning streak to five matches.

On the week, the Lady Toppers swept Belmont and captured its third conference tournament of the year after finishing with a 3­0 record at the 2015 Huskie Invitational on the campus of Northern Illinois.

Appearing in all four matches for the Lady Toppers, Lucas finished with a pair of double­-doubles including a near triple double effort of 48 assists, 14 digs and six kills in WKU’s five­-set victory over Northern Illinois Saturday afternoon.

Against Belmont, the sophomore finished with 35 assists and 13 digs.

Overall, Lucas led the Lady Toppers with 11.07 assists per set while also chipping in 2.60 digs per set, 1.06 kills per set and ten total blocks, including a pair of solo stuffs in WKU’s sweep of Alabama.

This is the sophomore’s first weekly award in 2015, and the third of her career after winning the same honor in back­-to­-back last year.

In her second season as a Lady Topper, Lucas has already dented WKU’s all­-time record books as the setter currently ranks eighth in total assists with 1,898 for her career.
