Friends of the Muscatatuck River Society is sponsoring the 12th annual fall river sweep Saturday.

Volunteers will have the opportunity to canoe a section of the Muscatatuck River or walk along its banks while collecting trash.

Everyone is welcome to participate. Parents or other adults need to accompany small children.

All are encouraged to dress in clothing appropriate for outdoor work and relative to the current weather conditions.

Registration is at 8 a.m. at Vernon Commons off Jackson Street in Vernon. A brief safety instruction, equipment distribution and group location assignment gathering will be conducted before going to the river sweep locations.

Participants interested in canoeing during the cleanup must provide their own canoe.

Participants will conclude their day at noon at Shelter House 4 at North Vernon City Park. Lunch will be provided from food donated by local businesses.
